Bangkok, Thailand

OUR TRAVEL
August 2016

For our joint travel, we decided to visit Bangkok Thailand.  We are here for a 4-day trip to explore and experience Bangkok's culture, attractions, and food as well.  Lyndon is a Tom Yum fanatic and he would like to have it straight from the source country.  We will be also visiting some attractions from the outskirts of Bangkok through a join-in tour where-in we scheduled first. So, here we go...

Coconut Sugar Farm & Souvenir Shop

We booked a join-in tour to Damnoen Saduak Floating Market and this was one of the side trips.  But basically, the tour operators really drop by here so that tourist can take a look at the souvenir items and provide sales for the shops.

Chang Puak Camp

Another side trip before heading to the floating market is this camp.  Main attraction of this camp is the elephant ride that they offer for tourists.  Although we didn't ride the elephant, we just hang out and checked out the place. Kresha felt that this is a sad excuse to exploit the elephants. Not much of a sanctuary.  Even some members of the group tour felt sorry and sad about the elephant ride experience.

Damnoen Saduak Floating Market

Finally, we arrived at the highlight of this join-in tour, the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market.  There are a lot of floating markets in the outskirts of Bangkok but Damnoen Saduak is one of the most sought out by tourists.  First, we were chartered by a long tail boat for about 10 minutes then finally arriving at the floating market.  We arrived at a late time so most of the vendors were already out and only a few were left on the waterways.

Chicken Pad Thai 😋

Spicy Papaya Salad 😋

Chaophraya Princess River Cruise @ River City

Later in the evening, we indulged ourselves with River Dinner Cruise aboard Chaophraya Princess in River City Pier.  When in Bangkok, we highly recommend this cruise.  It's a 2-hour cruise where-in you will be delighted with the astonishing night views of the different attractions of Bangkok riverside while enjoying a sumptuous international buffet dinner.

Grand Palace & Emerald Buddha Temple (Wat Pra Kaew)

Next morning we visited the Grand Palace and Emerald Buddha Temple. It is one of the most famous landmarks in Bangkok (as you can see by the number of tourists in the pic below).  Apparently, this is the former residence of the King.  But now it serves as a tourist attraction and a place where special government events are held.

No, its not a parade, nor a rally... It's really the number of tourist by this time...😕😕😕

No shoes allowed inside the temples

Wat Pho - Temple of the Reclining Buddha

Wat Pho or also known as the Temple of the Reclining Buddha is considered as one of the highest grades of Buddhist temples in Bangkok.  Here a golden 46-meter long reclining Buddha is placed and is a true spectacle to both local and foreign tourists alike.

She loves that fresh pomegranate juice from a street vendor just outside Wat Pho 😋

Asiatique

By night time we decided to have visit and have our dinner at Asiatique.  It is a night bazaar with upscale restaurants and entertainment facilities.

Tom Kha Khung Nang - River Prawn Soup w/ Coconut Milk, Lemongrass, Mushroom & Galangal

Phad Priew Wan Moo - Stir-fried Pork w/ Sweet & Sour Sauce

Poo Nim Phad Sauce Makham - Stir-fried Soft Shelled Crab w/ Tamarind Sauce Topped w/ Crispy Mint

The Dome & Sky Bar at Lebua State Tower

The Sky Bar at the Dome in Lebua State Tower is considered the highest rooftop bar in the world to date.  It is made famous as was one of the sets in the famous Hollywood film, The Hangover 2.  And since we are staying at the Lebua State Tower, we would miss the chance to experience this prestigious bar, specially if you are given complimentary vouchers for free drinks.
